watercolor on paper
24″ × 36″, 1977
California artist Joan Brown may be the only Bay Area artist to swim across San Francisco’s Golden Gate. Her daily swim in San Francisco Bay provided inspiration for a series of paintings included in the 1974 exhibition (retrospective) of her work at the University Art Museum on the University of California’s Berkeley campus where she is associate professor in the art department.
Her work has been exhibited widely in galleries and museums throughout the United States and is included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Hirshhorn Collection, the Los Angeles County Museum and many other important public and private collections.
From The Art Collection of the Crocker National Bank, curated by Susan Rush.
