Michael Thorn Bradley (1944–2012) was a Bay Area painter and printmaker known for monochromatic landscape imagery. Born in New York City on November 3, 1944, he earned three degrees from the University of California, Berkeley — a B.A. in 1971, an M.A. in 1973, and an M.F.A. in 1974. He received KQED’s Artist Award in 1974 and a Purchase Prize at the San Francisco Art Festival. His work appeared in solo exhibitions at the Ames Gallery in Berkeley (1974, 1976), Gump’s Gallery in San Francisco (1976, 1977), the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (1977), and the San Jose Museum of Art (1977), and in group exhibitions including “Metaphysical Works” at the Richmond Art Center (1973), “Five from Berkeley” at the Berkeley Art Center (1974), “Works on Paper by Fifteen Bay Area Artists” at the San Francisco Art Institute (1974), “Interstices” at the San Jose Museum of Art (1975, also shown at the Cranbrook Academy of Art and the Flint Institute of Arts), “California Landscape” at the Oakland Museum (1975), and the “All California Show” at the Laguna Beach Museum of Art (1975).
