1935–
Geer Morton (b. 1935) was born in Damariscotta, Maine, and studied at the San Francisco Art Institute, where he trained under Richard Diebenkorn. He became associated with the Bay Area Figurative movement, working primarily in acrylic in a colorful, broadly brushed, semi-abstract style, and later chaired the Institute’s Design Department while teaching painting and drawing there. Morton has divided his career and residences between California and Maine, painting still lifes, portraits, and landscapes — including scenes around Lubec, Maine, where he keeps a studio alongside one in San Diego. His work is held in numerous private and corporate collections and has been exhibited in galleries from San Francisco and Los Angeles to Maine.
