Forrest Moses, from the 1976 catalog

Forrest Moses (1934- )

Written in 1976 for the catalog and reproduced as printed, with spelling corrected. Not current.

Forrest Moses’ work, with its intuitive, almost Zen-like calligraphic directness, occupies an individualistic area between impressionism and expressionism; while taking nature as his point d’appui, he composes works of distilled elements of light, color and movement approaching abstraction.

Moses now lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was born in 1934 in Danville, Virginia, and was educated at Washington and Lee University, Pratt Institute, and the Houston Museum School of Fine Arts.

The artist’s work was most recently seen at the Tibor de Nagy Gallery in Houston. He has also had one-man shows at the Gordon Woodside Gallery, Seattle; the David Gallery, Houston; and the Wichita Falls Art Museum. In addition to many group exhibitions, Moses has been represented in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Fe; the American Telephone and Telegraph Company; the Inexco Oil Company; the Southland Life Insurance Company; Tesoro Petroleum; CRS Design Associates, Houston; and others.
