This quick, simple, and colorful study of a seated cowboy after a long day’s ride is characteristic of young painter Joe Draegert. He was born in 1945 in Iowa, studied at the Yale School of Art, the Kansas City Art Institute, and the University of California at Davis where he received an MFA in 1970.

He had a one-man show in 1973 at the Hank Baum gallery in San Francisco, and has exhibited elsewhere at the University of Nevada, the Jewish Museum, the Kansas City Art Institute, the University of California, Davis, and Kansas State University. His work is in the permanent collections of the Nelson-Atkins Gallery in Kansas City; the E.B. Crocker Gallery, Sacramento; and the Memorial Union Gallery, University of California, Davis.
