Guy Bardone (1927- )
Written in 1976 for the catalog and reproduced as printed, with spelling corrected. Not current.
Guy Bardone’s Cezanne-like brushstrokes, his textural and vivid image of forests and foothills in winter sun and shadow suggest a classic French art education. Bardone was, in fact, born in St. Cloud, France in 1927, and studied at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Paris where he was a pupil of Desnoyer, Brianchon, and Gromaire. Awarded the Prix Feneon in 1952, he was a member of the Salon des Jeunes Peintures and the Salon d’Automne, and was awarded a number of other prizes.
Bardone has had one-man shows in Tokyo; at the Marlborough Gallery, London; and the Findlay Galleries in New York. He has illustrated books by Montherlant, Ayme, D.H. Lawrence and Henri Troyat.
From The Art Collection of United Gas Pipe Line Company (Houston, 1976), curated by Susan Rush.
