Walter Darby Bannard (1934- )

Written in 1976 for the catalog and reproduced as printed, with spelling corrected. Not current.

Walter Darby Bannard’s work has had a distinguished series of public exhibitions in the United States and abroad since the early 1960’s. In 1974 his work was seen in a one-man show at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. Prior to that he was given one-man shows in New York at the Tibor de Nagy Gallery; at Kasmin Limited, London; the Richard Feigen Gallery, Chicago; the Nicholas Wilder Gallery; the Neuendorf Gallery, Cologne; Knoedler’s, New York; and the Newport Harbor and Pasadena Art Museums in California and the Tibor de Nagy Gallery in Houston.

Bannard is represented here by a fascinating color-field print in shimmering permutations of burnt orange, an excellent example of the artistry that has placed Bannard in most of the major Museum exhibitions since 1964. He was born in 1934 in New Haven, Connecticut, and was educated at Princeton University in New Jersey where he now lives.
