Bob Camblin (1928- )

Written in 1976 for the catalog and reproduced as printed, with spelling corrected. Not current.

“I find it difficult to make a general statement about my work,” Bob Camblin has said. “It is autobiographical in that I have now lived about 23 million minutes and the drawings relate to some of these . . . they are a bit like snake skins after the snake has grown and moved on.”

Camblin was born in 1928 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He studied at the Kansas City Art Institute, where he later taught. He also held teaching positions at the Ringling School of Art, the University of Illinois, University of Detroit, University of Utah, and Rice University. He was awarded a Fulbright study grant to Italy in 1956 and 1957.

Camblin’s work is in the collections of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Joslyn Art Museum, Omaha; the University of Oklahoma Art Museum; and many others. He has had one-man shows and group exhibitions at the Whitney, Detroit, Joslyn, and Omaha Art Museums, and was included in major annual exhibitions at Fort Worth and Dallas in 1971.
