Cornelia Schulz (1936- )

Written in 1976 for the catalog and reproduced as printed, with spelling corrected. Not current.

Cornelia Schulz is a brilliant colorist whose work is among the best of the San Francisco Bay Region. In 1975, she was winner of a major grant awarded by the Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. She now teaches at the University of California at Davis.

The stunning effect of movement on color, the depth and energy of her work are all notably present in the two examples in this collection.

She had her first one-woman show at the Richmond Art Center in 1962, and was given solo exhibitions also by the Lester Gallery, Inverness, California; the University of California, Berkeley, Art Museum; Mills College; and the Hansen Fuller Gallery, San Francisco. Her work has been included in group shows at the Pasadena Art Museum; Oakland Art Museum; University of California, Davis; and the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

She was born in Pasadena, California, in 1936, studied at Pasadena City College, Los Angeles County Art Institute, and the San Francisco Art Institute, where she received a BFA degree in 1960 and an MFA in 1962. She now lives and maintains a studio in Stinson Beach, California.
